Stopping
It’s important to make sure others can see you easily (e.g. on top of a rise in the piste). Consistently stopping at the edge of the piste makes sure there’s enough space on the piste for everyone. You should favour stopping in places where it’s easy to get going again like the end of a flat stretch. It helps to stay aware of how steep the piste is at all times.
Stopping under a chairlift or next to a snow cannon while it’s running can distract others. There’s also a danger of falling objects. Spraying someone who’s stopped with snow from behind could cause an avoidable collision if you lose control. It’s advisable to stop more often when visibility is poor.
Walking uphill/downhill
No one expects to see people walking up the piste, so it’s common for them not to be noticed until it’s too late. This makes it all the more important for people walking uphill or downhill to stay at the edge of the piste and only cross the piste in places where visibility is good.
